A story of standards, conviction, and craft
Between them, the founders of SheerGem have spent over 40 years inside the fine jewelry industry. They have seen how it works — the supply chains, the markups, the quiet shortcuts taken at every step from mine to display case.
What they noticed about moissanite was different. The stone had extraordinary potential — higher fire and brilliance than diamond, fully traceable lab-grown origin, a fraction of the cost. But the category was selling it badly: inconsistent quality, in-house certificates nobody trusted, plated settings, generic packaging. Moissanite was being treated as a budget option rather than a serious gem.
So they spent years building what didn't exist. A supply chain sourced only from the world's most advanced moissanite labs. A relationship with master cutters trained to SheerGem's exacting standards. And ultimately, the SHEER grading framework — co-developed with IGI as the first independent moissanite grading standard in the industry.

2012
Two jewelry industry veterans — with over 40 years of combined experience — recognize that moissanite has potential the category isn't realizing. The stone exists but lacks consistency, certification, and any serious brand treatment. The idea for SheerGem is born.

2019
Lab-grown moissanite technology matures. The founders begin building a supply chain — sourcing only from the most advanced labs, developing relationships with master cutters, and laying the groundwork for an independent grading standard.

2021
SheerGem begins providing IGI-certified moissanite jewelry wholesale to independent jewelry retailers. The reception is immediate and enthusiastic — the category had been waiting for this.

2023
The SHEER Grading Standard is finalized in partnership with IGI — the first independent grading framework for moissanite. Five exacting criteria. Less than 10% of moissanite on the market can meet them.

SheerGem launches direct-to-consumer beta with family and friends. Every piece sold comes with the full SheerPromise — lifetime warranty, returns, trade-up, and cleaning. The feedback validates everything the founders believed about the gap in the category.
